The artist, Geanna M. Hernandez, originally from East Los Angeles, California, where she attended East Los Angeles Community College and Art Center College of Design: Art Center At Night, graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Her rigorous training and materials exploration using practices, such as, painting, drawing and sewing have allowed Hernandez to engage in public projects within the East Los Angeles and Chicago communities while also referencing social issues, such as, race, class and the question of American identity within her work. Hernandez currently creates objects and surfaces that combine her interests in anatomical and environmental structures and systems where the physicality of the works compare and contrast the similarities found within metropolitan and figurative landscapes.
